For the past couple of weeks I've been working a contract position via a recruiting company called Teksystems, one of the largest in the world for tech professionals. Like all the other times before when I've changed jobs, I've had to do crawl before I could walk. Each time I've gotten a new job I've wondered how exactly my experience in tech can be used within the current company I work for at the time.

The truth is that in technology, most of what you will do will not apply to your current position. The experience you have, be it with any software or hardware, is more for the sake of familiarity and how comfortable you are with it. Your day-to-day however may look entirely different.

One thing I've become accustomed to is having to figure out multiple ways to resolve issues and handle different customers at the same time. Within the current company I work for, there is a huge insistence on streamlining the way support tickets are handled. It's a different way of doing things, but it's also a learning opportunity.

All the technology we have at our disposal can make for a more pleasant experience when troubleshooting. Every company has that goal in mind, but complicated infrastructures often make that process difficult. The company I work for seems clearly more determined to make that a reality and it's clear that I need to learn these new ways of doing for this company to be the most successful.
