In the latest round of layoffs, Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp has let go of 3,600 employees. That's 3,600 more people in an already crowded job searching for their next place of employment. Although companies like to ask for an employee to stay with a company long-term, any employment can end if the company feels its in their own best interests.
I say this because I, along with a few other temps, were let go from the current company we work for due to economic changes. I had an office, I was getting more familiar with how to do this job and understand the expectations of the job. I was also getting praise for what I do - something that doesn't happen often within the IT industry and certainly not within the realm of IT Support.
If 2024 and now 2025 have taught us, it's that there is no "safety". There perhaps has never been a time in history where any place of employment ever really was "safe"; anyone can be let go at any time for any reason even if you are the best employee around. Be as it may, I will no longer have a job on Friday of this week.
I'm sad about it, even a little scared, but I go bravely into the great unknown wandering for my next home with my digital resume in hand while researching companies to ace the many interviews I've need to endure in order to get myself that much closer to closing the deal and landing a job. At my core, there's a small hopeful spark that guides me through the dark times. I'm also a person who doesn't give up despite everything around me giving me a reason to give up.
Onward to the next oppertunity.
